What Responsibilities Does The Role Involve?

Registered Psychiatry Nurse, Mental Health Nurse & Enrolled Nurse

As a member of our mental health staffing team, you will be assisting individuals in coping with their mental health issues in a respectful and caring manner.

Your responsibilities will entail:

  • Systematically carrying out Mental State Examinations aimed at identifying patients’ goals
  • Providing individual therapies and interventions while evaluating the effectiveness of the same
  • Ongoing monitoring: Recognizes changes in the patient’s risk and mental status, takes necessary action
  • Medication administration aligned with implementation of indicated interventions
  • Undertaking Admission and Discharge process
  • Documentation: Ensuring accurate and reflective current mental state of the patient
  • Specific roles will be detailed in the position description.

Mental Health Support Workers

  • Support with Activities Daily Living
  • Support with Community Access
  • Recovery Support: Encouraging independence, goal setting, and compliance with treatment plan
  • Crisis Support: Assisting during behavioural or emotional distress, as per the behaviour support plan.
  • Documentation: Recording progress notes, incidents, and behavioural observations.
  • NDIS Support: Working under participants’ NDIS plans (Core Supports, Capacity Building).

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Registered Psychiatry Nurses & Mental Health Nurses (RPN/MHN)

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Qualification: Completion of a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent). May hold a mental health specialisation, OR completion of a postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing
  • Demonstrated experience in mental health nursing
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Mental Health Enrolled Nurses (ENs)

  • Current registration with AHPRA as an Enrolled Nurse.
  • Experience in mental health care, including patient monitoring, medication administration (within scope), and supporting therapeutic interventions.
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to patient-centred care.

Mental Health Support Workers

  • Certificate III/IV or Diploma in Mental Health, Disability, or Community Services (or working towards).

  • Practical experience supporting individuals with psychosocial disabilities, complex mental health needs, or behavioural challenges.
  • Capacity to provide daily living support, community participation assistance, and crisis support when required.

All applicants must also:

  • Hold a current Police Check and Working with Children Check.
  • Have up to date First Aid & CPR certification.
  • Be flexible to work across various shifts (day, evening, night, weekends).
  • Among other essential requirements

For the role of Mental Health Registered Nurse and Enrolled Nurse, you should be having current AHPRA registration, experience in mental health, knowledge of Mental Health & Wellbeing Act 2022, compassionate and reliable, strong communication skills among other essential requirements.

Mental Health Support Workers should have experience in mental health aligned with strong communication skills. The candidate should have a functional Knowledge of mental health and possessing current police check (or willing to obtain), First Aid/CPR among other requirements.
